“Call for Submissions”: PRX’s six-word economy memior

On the hunt for another inventive ‘six-word’ creation, it felt oddly serendipitous that I found just what I was looking for during a commercial break from PRI’s The World. A site aimed at tackling pressing issues on the economy, last week  www.economystory.org began asking it’s facebook and twitter followers to write their own six-word memoirs on the economy.  Though PRI is not one of the collaborating broadcasters of the site, sharing six-words on the economy indeed filled their commercial gap in a creative and entertaining way.

The narrator shared a few of the memoirs during the ad, but here are some different one’s from the site’s blog that caught my eye:

@frugalista: Box hair dye works just fine.

Alan Atwood: Contract Job, no frills life, healthcare albatross.

@jelyon: New 40-something grad, new career, no jobs. Solution? AmeriCorps VISTA.

@Littof Went from owning a 3-bedroom house in L.A. to living rent-free as caretakers of a farmhouse on San Juan Island.

Some strayed from the six word limit, but they got their personal message across all the same.  The blog post also paid tribute to Smith Magazine as the first site to begin the six-word memoir phenomenon, mentioning its evolution from requesting story submissions, to publishing two books.

What  story can you tell about the economy in six words?  Visit Economy Story on Twitter or Facebook to write your six-word economy memoir.  They will be collecting more responses in the coming weeks, so keep your submissions flowing!
